Paddles

Kayak Paddles

When choosing a paddle, it’s important to consider both the length and surface area (blade size). These considerations depend on several factors, including the size and strength of the paddler as well as their experience in paddling.

When it comes to paddle length, the focus should be on what suits the individual paddler best.

Canoe Paddles

The paddle length should be measured from the ground to the paddler’s eyebrow. It should ideally be 6-10cm shorter than the paddler’s body height and approximately around eyebrow height.

Crew Boat Paddle

For C2/C4 crew boats, a shorter blade is recommended (up to 5cm shorter), due to the following:

  • Crew boats move faster.
  • The blade spends a shorter time in water.
  • Crews have a higher stroke rate.
  • The paddler’s position in crew boat is sometimes lower. An adjustable paddle is recommended to accommodate these variations.
