Minimising injury risk

Community coaches are ideally placed to educate paddlers regarding injury prevention strategies.

These strategies may include:

Returning to Training After Injury or Illness

Paddlers returning to training after injury or illness should only do so on the advice of a medical professional.

  • Are there any modifications to training required?
  • How long is it expected before they can return to full training?

Coaches should continue to monitor the paddler’s reintroduction to training.

  • Ask paddler and or parent how their recovery is progressing.

First Aid & CPR

  • All coaches need a First Aid and CPR certificate.
  • Make sure you have an adequate and easily accessible first aid kit.
  • Be aware of your club or organisation’s protocols and procedures for injury management and emergencies.
